The Halliburton Life Rules are a set of core factors that affect personal safety that all Halliburton employees know and live by. These are key components for identifying and managing the hazards in our business. HYDROGEN SULFIDE (H 2 S) IS A COLORLESS, FLAMMABLE GAS THAT CAN BE DEADLY. H 2 S may be present in oil and natural gas produced from wells with sulfur and sulfides. H 2 S is colorless, and thus invisible to the naked eye, and has the odor of rotten eggs. Before working at a site that could produce H 2 S, ensure your personal protective equipment and H 2 S sensor are in good working order. Keep your face clean- shaven to ensure a safe seal in the event a respirator is necessary. Use personal or permanent area sensors to monitor H 2 S levels before and during operations. Know the evacuation routes and meeting points. And remember —evacuate upwind or cross- wind, not in the direction the wind is blowing. At Halliburton, Priority No. 1 is safety.
